At Your Black World, we just received an email from the White House featuring a statement by President Barack Obama. The statement involves the recent passing of Civil Rights legend Fred Shuttlesworth. Here’s what the president had to say:
Michelle and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth today. As one of the founders of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Reverend Shuttlesworth dedicated his life to advancing the cause of justice for all Americans. He was a testament to the strength of the human spirit. And today we stand on his shoulders, and the shoulders of all those who marched and sat and lifted their voices to help perfect our union.
I will never forget having the opportunity several years ago to push Reverend Shuttlesworth in his wheelchair across the Edmund Pettus Bridge – a symbol of the sacrifices that he and so many others made in the name of equality. America owes Reverend Shuttlesworth a debt of gratitude, and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Sephira, and their family, friends and loved ones.

Thank You Lord God Almighty for Fred and the Many others that put their lives on the line for "Black People", for we was fighting for Our American Rights that was denined upon being set Free from Slavery. Now, where are we at? Giving back those Rights byway of the Legal Department(Jail).Let us not disrespect Mr.S,Mr.K,Mrs P,and all the rest, by not Voting Again for President Obama, don't fall for that Old Game: Divide and Conquer, Herman Cain will be used by the White People to split the Black Vote, Don't do it.
Thank you, Rev.shuttlesworth for your untiring contribution to our struggle, may your spirit live on in the best of us.R-I-P! (you will never be forgottten)
I didnt know anything about Fred Shuttlesworth but I did just read up on him and although I didn't know anything about him I am extremely glad that I did read up on him because now I know what purpose he served in this world. It saddens me that so many people don't know their history and aren't willing to try and find out because they feel that everything which happend before doesnt mean anything today but it is far from being true because everything that happend all those years ago, all those people who fought for us to have freedom of speech, education, jobs, healthcare is what led us here today. We are still struggling as a people and in a lot of ways we aren't free. Ignorance is a disease that a lot of people have been diagnosed with and that is the worse thing a person can ever be. Knowledge is power it determines the amount of control others will have on you. I pray that GOD will have mercy on these younger people coming up because what they look up to is the total opposite of a real role model. And I feel so sorry for them but the only thing I can do is try my best to inspire the few whom will listen because you can't change the mindsets of all.
