Newt Gingrich Says Poor Children Don’t Know How to Work

Your Black World reports

Newt Gingrich thinks that poor children don’t know how to work. To support his idea of putting poor kids to work sweeping hallways in their schools, Gingrich said, “Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and nobody around them who works.”

Gingrich made the ill-conceived remarks at a fundraiser in Iowa.

'So they literally have no habit of showing up on Monday. They have no habit of staying all day. They have no habit of "I do this and you give me cash"... unless it's illegal.'

Gingrich is sticking to his guns, in spite of the fact that there is evidence to say that wealthy and privileged children have a lower work ethic than poor children, who must work in order to survive. Gingrich thinks that the best way to combat poverty is to teach poor people how to work.

Gingrich has also stated that child labor laws are “truly stupid,” and that kids as young as nine should be sent to work.

'I’m going to be the nominee,' Gingrich said in a recent ABC News interview.

'It’s very hard not to look at the recent polls and think that the odds are very high I’m going to be the nominee.'

Some wonder if Gingrich himself knows much about personal responsibility. He has three failed marriages, one in which he had his wife sign divorce papers while she was sick with breast cancer. He has also been accused of numerous affairs with young interns, and taking money from corrupt corporate interests.

In spite of his short-comings, Gingrich is six points ahead in the race for the nominee who best reflects Republican values. He even has a two percentage point lead over President Obama.

This was the justification for colonial slavery, Apartheid and other systemic historical forms of racism and classism. This is the reason the government flooded communities with drugs while taking away job opportunities and putting in failing school systems. This is the reason this government is outscourcing jobs and allowing illegal immigration to run rampant. Read the congressional and senate hearings from the beginning of the 1900s to 1930s on the topic of changing child labor laws and enacting more public schools. Senators were stating that education would spoil poor white children and make them ill-equip to work in factories. So if they thought this of whites what did they think of all people of color or non-whites, remembering that all those who self-identify as white now were not identified or considered white in those days. This is the wealthy wanting to keep cheap labor. Bring back the jobs to this country. Teach the children academic skills and trade skills in the junior high and high schools that they can use to self improve and to become independent business owners. Stop the flow of illegal drugs and people into this country and see how things turn around. But they will not do this as long as we keep financing our own oppression. How many of us shopped on Black Friday or Cyber Monday? How much debt did you acquire? How many of those items that you brought are made in America or once were? How many can be made here? How many of you have jobs but your expenses rent/mortgage, utilities, food etc.. outweigh your paycheck or if not you then someone in your family? How many of you know that you have to file taxes every year or the tax man will come looking for you because you can't hide in plain sight? How many of you are working yet you need assistance but you can not get it because you make $1 over the limit to qualify? But, you get up to go to work on time or those who do not have a job you look for work everyday. Don't finance your oppression.

I collect Social Security disability income so I'm definitely one of the people who collects one dollar over the limit to get food stamps or other types of assistance from the government. I've worked since I was 16 years old, and because of that, the amount that I've made over time justifies my medical assistance as well.

@anonymous -- why are you stating issues from 1900 to the 1930s? Black children, Hispanic children, Asian children, and other ethnicities and races have just as many equal opportunities as do Whites in today's society. Equal opportunity employment, affirmative action, and all the other crutches designed for black Americans to succeed, and still the same issues. Even the lowering of test scores for police departments and fire departments has been done to enable more black Americans for employment, and still no results!

I've went to public schools all my life. Anyone who lives in a city gets just about everything free for school. That includes laptops, calculators, textbooks, binders, pencils and pens, etc. etc. I could go on and on all day. There are just as many classes that provide trade and labor skills in city schools as all are in rural public schools.
